Donald Trump is nothing if not a divisive figure, and no doubt even the “politically neutral” royals are aware of this.
After all, in addition to all his very public blustering, he’s also made some rather awkward comments about both the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.
So it’s with some glee that royal watchers and the general public have been scrutinising his every interaction with the Royal family on his first state visit.
Will the Queen subtly snub him with her choice of jewellery again? How will Prince Charles , an outspoken environmentalist, deal with Trump, who has famously refuted that climate change is happening?
While we may never know what the royals really make of Trump, the Duchess of Cornwall might have given us a cheeky indication during a photocall with the president and Melania.
Following the posing for pictures at Buckingham Palace, editor of Royal central, Charlie Proctor captured the Duchess giving the camera a knowing wink.
He posted the clip to Twitter with the caption: “Royal Protection Officer: ‘Camilla, if you are in trouble then wink, we will come and rescue you’.”
It was quickly picked up on by delighted royal watchers.
“Camilla – Queen of SASS!” wrote one fan.
“[…]i think the wink is supposed to imply something,” added someone who’s possibly reading too much into it.
Rupert Myers added: “Camilla’s wink is the best thing abut this visit so far.”
Body language expert Robin Kermode shed some light on Camilla’s actions, telling MailOnline : “It looks like a genuine wink of fun to me.
“The facial smile starts long before the wink which the reaches the outer corners of her eyes making it a genuine smile. She seems to have found the whole afternoon rather intriguing.”
