The officer was taken to a Fort Worth hospital in stable condition.
A Texas police officer is in the hospital after being shot multiple times during a traffic stop overnight, authorities said.
At about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, when the Burleson police officer approached a car on the passenger-side for an equipment violation, he was shot by one of the three people inside, Burleson police said.
The officer was listed in stable condition, Burleson Police Chief Billy Cordell told reporters.
The suspects — two men and one woman — abandoned the vehicle and fled, police said.
It’s not clear if they fled on foot or if someone in a car picked them up, Cordell said.
Officers are canvassing the area for the suspects.
Cordell asked the public to “pray for our officer and the Burleson police family.”
Burleson is about 45 miles southwest of Dallas.
